Event Description
Explore the Smith Uplands Preserve to learn about the history of this area, the scrub plant community, and many of the fascinating plants and other life that call this place home. Please wear lightweight clothing, long sleeves and pants, closed-toe shoes, hat, and sunglasses. Please also carry along a water bottle and wear sunscreen and insect repellent if you are sensitive to the sun and mosquitos.

Chad is the Deputy Director at Naples Botanical Garden and is the past Director of Conservation and Education. In this role he oversees the Garden’s efforts to conserve and research the flora of the 26th latitudes and to promote sustainable horticultural practices. He regularly speaks to local professional groups and homeowners about the use of native Florida plants in restoration projects and sustainable landscapes. Chad received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana, and completed his master’s degree in Applied Ecology from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University in 2002.
