Some plants may look beautiful in your landscape, but they can have a devastating effect. Non-native invasive species are a threat to biodiversity in the United States. Invasive plant are slowly changing the character of our natural ecosystems by displacing native plants, impacting native wildlife habitat, increasing soil erosion, and limiting forestry management options. This Program will identify some of the most common invasive plants found in urban landscapes, explain how they reproduce and/or spread, and discuss harm that can come from their persistence in southwest Florida as well as management, control strategies and ideas of Florida-Friendly plants that can be used to replace them on your landscape. Some of the principles of Florida-Friendly Landscaping will also be addressed in the presentation
