Event Description
This advanced workshop will include a brief introduction about Michael LaFosse’s history as an origami artist and papermaker as well as include show-and-tell of his works. Projects will include one flower and one butterfly. Both projects will be more complex and not appropriate for a beginner. Participants should be able to fold the traditional origami crane to qualify for the workshop.

Michael G. LaFosse has been working for over forty years as an origami artist and paper sculptor. Trained as a biologist, he finds his strongest inspiration in the natural world, preferring to study his subjects in their natural habitats. He credits the work of the late Japanese Origami Grand Master Akira Yoshizawa for leading the way, exploring nature and finding creative expression in origami art. In 1996, Michael and Richard Alexander co-founded the Origamido Studio, a teaching center, gallery, origami design and papermaking studio. Together, they design original origami sculptures, and then make their own custom, handmade paper for each new creation. Their works have graced museums worldwide, including the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris; the Arizona–Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson, Arizona; the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach, Florida; Hangar 7 (Red Bull) in Salzburg, Austria; the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts; the Mingei Museum in San Diego, California; and at their own, Origami Do Experience—Waikiki, besides other traveling exhibitions, including Origami in the Garden. They also design folded commercial art to draw attention to customers’ websites, printed pieces, tangible advertising, and for ads seen on TV. Their retail window installations have delighted passersby in upscale stores such as Hermes of Paris and Saks Fifth Avenue. Together, they have authored over 70 books and kits about origami and paper arts.

Registration is complete when payment is received. Certain programs fill up quickly and we accept registration on a first come, first served basis. Register early to ensure your program is not cancelled due to low enrollment. If a cancellation is required a refund will be issued.
