This 8-week workshop series, led by local artist Elizabeth Smith, facilitates students’ exploration of nature and self through nature journals. The virtual platform of these classes brought participants together across the United States from Florida all the way to California.
Creative aging programs provide older adults with a renewed sense of purpose, improved wellbeing, connection with others, and joy. They do this by inspiring older adults to learn, make and share the arts in an environment that sparks creativity, fosters friendships, and builds community.
Students in this program explore how to express themselves by creating a nature journal using watercolor pencils. Nature journaling weaves together multiple disciplines like language arts, science, and history into the creative process. The classes encourage participants to practice observation in order to form deeper connections with the nature around them. You can see these observations and connections through their artwork, artist statements, and images of their nature journals on display in this exhibition.
Can’t attend in person? Attend the exhibit virtually!
